Basketball 2027 Season Youth, Grades 5-8
Program will develop game skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect for players, coaches and referees. Practicing of skills will be conducted on weeknights and develop into games accordingly on Saturdays. Teams will play games against each other and referees will be used. Teams are formed randomly based on siblings, parent coaches and years of playing. We will try to honor neighborhood carpool requests and cannot guarantee all requests, as making balanced teams is our first priority.
Program is for Suffield Residents only.
GIRLS - Practice Nights: Wednesdays, December 2 through February 24
Rotating time slots between 5:00 - 8:30pm
GIRLS - Games Days: Saturdays, December 5 through February 27
Rotating time slots between 8:00am - 8:00pm
NOTE: Depending on registration numbers we may have to combine Girls Grades 5 & 6 with Girls Grades 7 & 8.
BOYS - Practice Nights: Wednesdays or Thursdays, December 2 through February 25
Rotating time slots between 5:00pm - 8:30pm
BOYS - Games Days: Saturdays, December 5 through February 27
Rotating time slots between 8:00am - 8:00pm
Snow Date: March 6
*Please note that practice nights may change from week to week depending on gym space availability. We will do our very best to keep girls' practices on Wednesday nights & boys practices on Thursday nights as stated above.
Please be aware that there will be no practices or games held during Winter vacation, December 24 - January 2.
All times are subject to change. A specific schedule will be distributed to the coaches once all teams are finalized.
Location: Various Suffield School Gyms. Due to gymnastics program at the Middle School, dates will be limited.
Fee: $185.00
Discount: $10.00 for second child or more
Registration Closes: Sunday, November 8 and/or earlier if enrollment reaches maximum capacity.
Late Fee: $205.00 effective Sunday, November 1
No refunds after Wednesday, November 25
There will be Evaluations held simply to make sure that teams are fair and even.
Evaluation Schedule:
Boys 5-6: Monday, October 26 at 7:00-7:50pm, Suffield Middle School Gym
Boys 7-8: Thursday, October 29 at 7:00-7:50pm, Suffield Middle School Gym
Girls 5-8: TBD if deemed necessary
Teams are formed randomly. PLEASE NO SPECIAL REQUESTS.
Shirt size availability may be limited.
COACHES MEETING: Tuesday, November 17, 5:45 - 6:30pm at the Suffield Senior Center.
Jerseys & shorts MUST be returned to the Parks & Recreation Department at the end of the season. Failure to return your jersey & shorts will result in account suspension.
Introducing Wednesday Night Main Event Games:
Starting this season, we will be introducing Wednesday Night Main Event Games for our basketball program. Each team in grades 3–8 will have the opportunity to play a team within their age division at Suffield Middle School on a Wednesday night in either January or February.
The goal of these special games is to give our players a fun, exciting, and professional game-day experience. The evening will include player introductions, the National Anthem, music during warmups and timeouts, and noise makers for fans in the stands. We will also encourage teams from other divisions to stay and cheer on the players during the other games throughout the evening.
Our goal is to pack the gym, create an energetic atmosphere, and make the night feel like a true Main Event for our players and families. The schedule for these games will be released sometime in December.
General Information
- Inclement Weather: Cancellations will be on suffieldrec.com and our Facebook page, or Email and Text messages will be sent to your Myrec account Email.Programs have a specific start and end date and can not be extended. If the schools close early or are closed due to weather or any unforeseen situations, we have no access to the facilities and the programs are automatically cancelled.
- For your child’s safety and the safety of others, jewelry and casts are not allowed.
- Due to circumstances out of our control, school functions randomly may cancel our programs at late notice and make ups may not be possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may bring. PROGRAMS HAVE LIMITED ENROLLMENT AND LIMITED GYM SPACE.
- The deadline for registration is established so that we can properly be prepared for the program with instructors and equipment. We appreciate your advanced cooperation. All registrations submitted after the deadline will be charged a late fee. Register early to avoid late fee.
- Past enrollment trends have dictated whether or not we will combine Boys and Girls Grade 5-6 with Grades 7-8.
- Uniforms MUST be returned to the Parks & Recreation Department at the end of the season.

COACHES NEEDED
- We anticipate high enrollment in this program and parental involvement is encouraged.
- Volunteering to coach is greatly appreciated.
