Creative Writing
The Suffield Parks and Recreation Department and the Trees for Suffield Imitative are collaborating on a new, fun and engaging writing series. The Trees for Suffield Initiative is all about trees. Their vision is to help individuals makes a connection to trees and be inspired by them. Celebrate trees by participating in this series of creative writing workshops during the month of March. Three local writers will each facilitate a workshop meant to inspire.
These writing workshops are geared towards adults and aspiring writers 14 years and older.

The programs will be held at the Kent Memorial Library on Wednesday evenings, March 1, 15 and 29 from 6:30 -7:30p.m.

March 1:
Instructor, Abby Wolcott will be facilitating the first session on the writing mindset and toolbox associated with writing creative non-fiction. Abby will share some of her tree pieces that she has written over the years and describe the journey from draft to final product. She  likes to weave a memory into her writing and asks participants to think of a special memory pertaining to trees to bring as a starting point for writing. She will guide the participants as they think of their audience, and begin the process of crafting a narrative.

March 15: Join local writer Wendy Pierman Mitzel as she uses Found Items to inspire! Bring your own tree related item or chose one from the provided materials and see where it takes you on your writing journey. Will you write about a memory? An aspiration? Will you uncover a topic which you haven’t quite been able to put down on paper until now? Bring a notebook for this guided writing prompt.

March 29: Come and write a poem with Rita Chmura. Want to feel like a kid again? Be inspired to write a poem about TREES. Nothing complicated, nothing difficult. Just a fun experience in the world of rhyming words. Join Rita, a local retired educator, as the presenter of this workshop to guide you through the process of writing simple poems. We will talk and write poetry.

Sign up for one or all three of these no cost workshops and get your ideas flowing!
