Intro to Let Grow Play Club
Suffield Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Suffield Balance Project invite you and your child to this intro to the Let Grow Play Club.  This is planned as a play opportunity for kids and an intro to the Play Club philosophy for parents. Let Grow Play Club is an unstructured, mix-aged play opportunity for kids. By allowing kids to independently guide play and resolve conflicts, we aim to grow essential social skills, resilience, and boost child confidence. The program facilitator is present to ensure child safety and/or to provide first aid if needed. The facilitator takes a hands-off (sometimes referred to as “lifeguard” only) role, meaning they do not mediate child conflict or guide play unless absolutely necessary. With a very limited amount of toys or materials, kids are challenged to use their creativity to come up with their own play ideas.

Parents who have questions or want to learn more about the Play Club model can drop in at any point during the hour to learn more about the Let Grow philosophy. Spaulding students can be dismissed directly to Play Club. Please have kids wear comfortable shoes and clothing you don’t mind them getting dirty. This club is rain or shine - in the event of rain please pack rain gear/boots (we will meet inside in case of thunderstorms or strong winds). Please pack a water bottle (required) and snack (optional). Please be sure to indicate if your child has any food allergies or sensitivities.  A small snack will be served.

Parents and children will be asked to review and sign the following Play Club Pledge prior to attending:

Kid Pledge:
1.
I will play respectfully.
2. I will not deliberately hit or physically hurt another child.
3. I understand I need to get permission to leave the area.
4. I agree to listen to the adults. They’ll only get involved when they need to, and then it’s my job to listen.

Parent Pledge:
1. I understand that not all kids will be happy all the time at Play Club.
2. I agree that the adults will not intervene in the children’s disagreements.
3. If my child deliberately hurts someone, they need to take a break.
4. I understand that this is a chance for my child to become more resilient, resourceful, and mature.
