Suffield Guided Forest Bathing Walk - Shinrin-yoku
Immerse yourself in nature, connect with your senses on a deeper level, reduce stress and improve well-being with the art of shinrin-yoku.
Join John and Madeline McClean at the Outdoor Education Preserve, 1080 Sheldon Street in West Suffield Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku).
Slow down and reconnect with nature this Fall. Trees For Suffield, the Suffield Land Conservancy, and Suffield Parks & Recreation are offering a unique opportunity to experience the restorative practice of Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) on Friday, October 30, at 11:00am.
Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," encourages participants to slow down and mindfully connect with nature through their senses. Research has shown that spending intentional time in natural settings can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote overall well-being.
The guided walk will be facilitated by Mat Jobin Owner, Outdoor Adventure Guide & Outdoor Gear Specialist from Reach Your Summit. The program begins with a brief meditation to awaken the senses, followed by a leisurely, mindful walk featuring a series of guided invitations to explore the forest in new ways. The session concludes with a gentle stretch and a traditional tea ceremony. The walk covers less than one mile on relatively flat, accessible trails with minimal elevation, making it suitable for participants of all physical abilities. No hiking experience is necessary. Participation is limited to 12 people to create a quiet intimate experience.
Attendees should park at the High School near the athletic fields and use the crosswalk to access the trail. Event signs will be posted. Whether you're looking to relieve stress, reconnect with nature, or simply enjoy the beauty of autumn in Suffield, this unique outdoor experience offers a chance to slow down, unplug, and discover the many benefits of mindful time in the woods.
