SCHOOL CONNECTIONS - Calm Creations (Gr. 3-5) - Calm Creations - School Connections Calm Creations is an after-school club designed to help students build emotional awareness and coping skills through hands-on creativity. This group combines social-emotional learning with fun, engaging crafts that students can use long after the club ends. Each week, we will begin with our consistent routine of “Roses and Thorns,” where students have the opportunity to share a positive moment from their week (a rose) and a challenge they may have experienced (a thorn). This predictable opening builds connection, encourages reflection, and helps students practice expressing their thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. After check-in, we will move into our weekly craft. Each session focuses on creating a calming tool or fidget designed to help students regulate big emotions, manage stress, and improve focus. Examples of creations may include visions boards, create your own journal, glitter jar, positive self-talk mirror, problem solving spinner, etc. Students will leave each session not only with something they made, but having had a place to connect, create, and learn how to calm our minds and bodies together!Parents must indicate in PikMyKid School Connections (McAlister) or individual program (Spaulding), so students can be safely dismissed. Students in afternoon courses will stay in their classrooms until approximately 3:30pm when they will be dismissed through a central location before being sent to the assigned course location. All students should be picked up promptly at the time listed for each course.Dates: Wednesdays, April 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20, 27Time: 3:30 - 4:30pmAges: Gr. 3-5Fee: $35.00Credit card payment only.NOTE: Any Suffield Parks & Recreation account credits may NOT be applied to School Connections registrations.

SCHOOL CONNECTIONS - Rise & Shine Yoga Club (Gr. 3-5) - Thursday Morning - Rise & Shine Yoga Club - School Connections - Thursday Morning Welcome to the Rise and Shine Yoga Club, a gentle and energizing way for students to start their day! This before-school yoga club is designed to help kids calm their bodies, clear their minds, and set a positive tone for a successful day at school. Through mindful movement and stretching, students will learn that moving their bodies isn’t just fun, it’s also an important part of supporting mental health and focus. In each class, we’ll set a simple intention, follow fun, carefully chosen YouTube yoga videos, and practice together in a calm, supportive space while also learning a little about why moving our bodies and taking time for self-care can be so beneficial for our mental health. Students will have the opportunity to stretch, breathe, and get their bodies moving, which helps wake up the brain and prepare for learning, while also learning skills to manage stress and emotions.Once I know who will be in the group, I will be sending out flyers with even more details so families and students can see exactly what to expect. SCHOOL CONNECTIONS - The Sunshine Club (Gr. 3-5) - The Sunshhine Club - School Connections The Sunshine Club is a supportive after-school program designed specifically for students who have parents that are divorced, separated, or living in two different homes. This group is a safe, welcoming space where children can connect with peers who share similar family experiences. Many students navigating life between two homes carry big feelings, questions, and unique challenges. The goal of this club is to help them realize they are not alone and to provide a space where their thoughts and experiences are understood and validated. Each week, we will focus on a specific topic related to living in two homes. Topics may include adjusting to change, handling transitions between houses, managing loyalty feelings, communicating with parents, coping with big emotions, problem-solving conflicts, and building resilience. A large part of our time together will involve open conversation. Students will have opportunities to talk about what they go through, ask questions, and hear from others who may be experiencing similar situations. I will facilitate discussions to ensure they remain respectful, supportive, and productive. The overall goals of the group are to help students feel connected and understood, normalize their experiences and emotions, provide a safe space to vent and process feelings, strengthen coping skills when big emotions arise, encourage peer connections and mutual support! This club is facilitated by Daria DiMatteo, McAlister’s School Social Worker.Parents must indicate in PikMyKid School Connections (McAlister) or individual program (Spaulding), so students can be safely dismissed.Students in afternoon courses will stay in their classrooms until approximately 3:30pm when they will be dismissed through a central location before being sent to the assigned course location. All students should be picked up promptly at the time listed for each course.Dates: Mondays, April 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, June 1No program on May 25Time: 3:30 - 4:30pmAges: Grades 3-5Fee: $60.00Credit card payment only.NOTE: Any Suffield Parks & Recreation account credits may NOT be applied to School Connections registrations.
